3. Penciling In (Notes): For more difficult puzzles, use the “notes” or “pencil” feature. In an empty cell, enter all the possible numbers that could legally go there. As you fill in other cells, you can eliminate candidates from your notes, eventually leaving only one possibility.
4. Look for “Naked Singles”: This is when a cell has only one possible candidate number left in its notes. Fill that number in immediately.
5. Look for “Hidden Singles”: This is when a candidate number appears only once within the notes of a specific row, column, or 3x3 box. Even if the cell itself has other candidates, that number must go in that cell for that specific row/column/box.
